Panorama 25 December Museum

25 December Gaziantep Defense Heroism Panorama and Museum is a cultural and memory space that presents the Defense of Antep during the National Struggle period using panoramic, dioramic, and experiential exhibition techniques. The museum focuses on the process culminating in the withdrawal of French forces from the city on 25 December 1921 and the resistance of the people of Gaziantep.

The museum site is located along the Alleben Stream and was built on a historic structure that served as the Ayntâb Redif Depot during the Ottoman period. The building was used as a military depot until 1912 and later sustained damage from French bombardment. In subsequent periods it fulfilled various military and administrative functions. Following an agreement between Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality and the Ministry of National Defense the site was transferred to the municipality and the museum project was implemented.^【1】

The museum is constructed on an area of approximately 14,000 square meters. Within the building stands a panoramic oil painting measuring 120 meters in length and 13 meters in height. In addition, 14 panels and three dioramas depict different scenes of the Defense of Antep.^【2】 The museum has been designed in accordance with contemporary museological principles, offering visitors a multi-layered visual experience.^【3】

Historical documents, artifacts, and works donated by families of martyrs and veterans related to the Defense of Antep are exhibited in the museum. The different phases of the conflict are visualized through the panoramic painting, panels, and dioramas.^【4】 Additionally, cinerama presentations and interactive exhibition areas provide supplementary narrative support for visitors.^【5】

The 25 December Panorama Museum fulfills the role of preserving the historical memory of the Defense of Antep and transmitting it to future generations. The museum also functions as a center for education, research, and cultural transmission.^【6】 With facilities such as children’s activity areas and a conference hall, it contributes to the development of historical awareness.
