What Do You Need to Play?
You do not need many materials to play this game. Simply draw three nested squares on a square piece of paper or cardboard, connected by lines. You will need nine pieces of each of two different colors. If you do not have stones, do not worry; buttons, colored beans, or chickpeas will work just as well.
Objective and Benefits of the Game
In the Nine Stones game, your main goal is to form a line of three of your own pieces either horizontally or vertically on the board and reduce your opponent’s pieces to two. This game is not only fun but also strengthens your reasoning, strategy development, and memory skills. While playing, you learn to plan your next move and focus your attention on a single point.

How to Play?
Nine Stones is an exciting mental duel played by two people. You can decide who starts by flipping a coin.
Placing the Stones
First, take turns placing your nine stones one by one on the empty intersections of the board. Your goal is to align three of your stones in a straight line, either horizontally or vertically. When you form such a line, you make a "CÜZ" and may remove one of your opponent’s stones from the board. However, you cannot remove a stone that is part of a completed three-in-a-row set of your opponent’s, unless no other stones remain on the board.
Making Moves
Once all stones are placed on the board, the real strategy begins. You may now move your stones one unit at a time along the lines—forward, backward, left, or right. Remember, diagonal moves or jumping over stones are not allowed. Since you must move the stone you touch, think carefully before making a move.
The Most Exciting Rule: When Only Three Stones Remain!
The biggest surprise in the game comes when one player has only three stones left. If you are down to three stones, you are no longer restricted to moving along the lines. You may move any of your stones to any empty point on the board, as if you could "fly" like a bird. This rule gives a player on the verge of losing a powerful chance to turn the game around. The player who reduces their opponent’s stones to two wins the match!
Time Travel
The Nine Stones game is so ancient that the earliest traces of it date back to around 1400 BCE in Egypt. In Turkish and Altai cultures, the number nine is considered sacred, which is why the game is always played with nine stones per player.
