Başakşehir Çam ve Sakura Şehir Hastanesi is a modern healthcare complex located in the Başakşehir district of Istanbul and one of Türkiye’s largest health investments. Built under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model by the Ministry of Health, the hospital began operations in 2020. Construction commenced in 2016 and was completed in just 32 months.

The hospital is built on a site covering 789,031 square meters and has a total enclosed area of 1,021,265 square meters. The complex consists of 10 buildings equipped with 2,068 seismic isolators, earning it the title of “The World’s Largest Seismically Isolated Building.” It also features three helipads.

Başakşehir Çam ve Sakura Şehir Hastanesi has a total bed capacity of 2,682, including 456 intensive care beds. The hospital comprises eight specialized hospitals:

• Children’s Hospital
• Women’s Health and Obstetrics Hospital
• Cardiovascular Diseases Hospital
• Orthopedics and Neurology Hospital
• Oncology Hospital
• Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Hospital
• Mental Health and Disorders Hospital

The facility includes 714 outpatient clinics and 92 operating rooms (22 for day surgeries, 3 hybrid, 2 for burn cases, and 1 for emergency). It is designed to handle up to 35,000 outpatient visits and 1,000 surgeries per day.

The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art medical devices and systems. Notable specialized units include:

• 90-bay neonatal intensive care unit
• Stroke center
• Sleep center
• Genetic Diseases Diagnosis and Treatment Center
• Robotic gait rehabilitation center
• Palliative care unit
• Interventional pulmonology services

Additionally, the “Xoft Intraoperative Radiotherapy” (IORT) system, which allows radiation therapy to be administered to patients under anesthesia during surgery, was implemented for the first time in Türkiye at this hospital.

In 2022, Başakşehir Çam ve Sakura Şehir Hastanesi won the “Best Healthcare Complex” award at the International Real Estate Fair (MIPIM) held in Cannes, France, becoming Türkiye’s first project to receive an award in this category.

MIPIM has been one of the leading global events in the real estate sector since 1991. At the 2022 edition, themed “Shaping Urban Transformation,” 45 finalists competed across 12 categories. Başakşehir Çam ve Sakura Şehir Hastanesi was selected as a winner among competing projects including Pavilion (Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania) from the United States and Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen (SDCC) from Denmark.

Başakşehir Çam ve Sakura Şehir Hastanesi also stands out for its environmentally sustainable design. Rainwater is collected in a 3,600-square-meter reservoir and used to irrigate the 171,842-square-meter landscaped areas. Energy generated by solar panels installed on the building roofs meets the electricity needs for hot water supply and landscape lighting. The hospital was constructed to meet LEED Gold certification standards for energy efficiency and environmental design.
