From Yıldız to Gülistan, authored by historian Hasan Yenilmez, is a comprehensive historical study documenting how the Ottoman Empire closely monitored the Iranian Constitutional Revolution on the eve of the Second Constitutional Era. Published in December 2024 by Dergâh Yayınları’s History series, the work spans 296 pages and presents in detail the diplomatic, social, and intellectual interactions between the two nations.

The book analyzes, both chronologically and thematically, how the Ottoman modernization movements of the Tanzimat and Second Constitutional Era were reflected in Iran, and the roles played by the press, intellectual circles, and state bureaucracy in these relations. The Ottoman government’s stance toward constitutional developments in Iran during the reign of Sultan Abdülhamid II, along with the diplomatic exchanges and dissemination of ideas leading up to the proclamation of the Second Constitutional Era, are conveyed through the reports of Mehmed Şemseddin Bey and documents relating to Ottoman opposition movements. The Ottoman-Iranian interaction is richly examined from both the perspective of the ruling authorities and the opposition.
