Sea Sağdıç (1982, Mersin) has adopted an approach that shapes art with an ecological consciousness, transforming waste materials into artistic works. Turkish artist Born into a craft-oriented family in Mersin, Sağdıç discovered her interest in art at an early age and developed her skills in this field. In her art, she examines the female image from a social perspective, aiming to provoke reflection on social change on.
Deniz Sağdıç was born in Mersin to a family of artisans. The time she spent in her father’s stained-glass workshop taught her how to make stained glass, she drew patterns on her uncle’s decorative glass designs, and she crafted women’s bags from old denim in her aunt’s tailoring atelier. These early experiences introduced her to art from a young age.
After completing her secondary education, she was admitted to the Painting Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mersin University. She spent her student years University and graduated in 2003 as the top student of her faculty. Shortly after graduation, she established her own atelier, began teaching painting, and continued her artistic practice at a professional level.
After graduation, Deniz Sağdıç moved to Istanbul where she set up her own studio and continued her work. She shaped her art by examining the representation of the female image and its place in society. During this period, she developed projects centered on women and completed her advanced education in this field.
In her artistic career, she pursued a conceptual approach with the “Ready-ReMade” project, blending ready-made objects commonly used in conceptual art with traditional art techniques. Through this project, she raised questions about the nature of art by bringing together traditional and contemporary art forms. Subsequently, she began producing artworks from waste materials and embraced a sustainable art philosophy.
Deniz Sağdıç’s art is based on the reuse of waste materials. In her practice, she seeks to reinvigorate unused objects within the art world. This approach not only challenges the art environment but also encourages viewers to reconsider their consumption habits. The “Ready-ReMade” project questioned existing perceptions of art by combining classical artistic methods with contemporary artistic practices.
