Çanakçılar Special Ethnography and Archaeology Museum

The Çanakçılar Private Ethnography and Archaeology Museum is a privately operated museum established within the grounds of the Çanakçılar Ceramic Factory in the Gökçebey district of Zonguldak province. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the two-story building serves as a museum displaying both archaeological and ethnographic artifacts. The museum was founded with the aim of preserving social and cultural memory and transmitting local historical and artistic heritage to future generations.

The museum is located near the center of Gökçebey district, within the boundaries of the Çanakçılar Ceramic Factory complex. Within the factory campus, visitors are served in a holistic environment that includes a zoo and landscaped gardens. This integration of cultural and natural elements makes it an exemplary model of a museum.

The archaeological gallery on the second floor displays a large number of artifacts from various historical periods. The collection includes a total of 536 archaeological objects, 695 coins, and 9 seals. Exhibited items include glassware, baked clay figurines, lamps, small statues, and various ceramic objects from the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods. In particular, glass perfume bottles and lamps provide significant insights into daily life during the Roman era.

The ethnographic section features objects reflecting traditional life from the Ottoman and Republican periods. These include handcrafted copper vessels, wooden kitchen utensils, clothing, writing instruments such as divit and hokka, agricultural tools, and everyday regional items. These artifacts hold important ethnographic value as they document the cultural and economic lifestyle of the region.

The museum building is two stories high. The first floor is arranged as a showroom presenting the products of Çanakçılar Ceramic A.Ş., offering visitors the opportunity to explore modern ceramic products. The second floor is entirely dedicated to museum functions. Admission to the museum is free and it is open every day of the week. Additionally, the campus includes supplementary areas such as a natural life park, a zoo, and curated plant arrangements.
