Yamak Ahmet (Series)

Yamak Ahmet is a Turkish television drama series that began airing on TRT 1 in 2011. It ran for two seasons between 2011 and 2012, with episodes approximately one hour in length. The series is produced in Türkiye, with filming taking place in the Safranbolu district of Karabük. It is rated for viewers aged 13 and above.

The series centers on the social and cultural life during the month of Ramadan in the Ottoman period. The narrative presents snapshots of daily life both within the palace and among the general public, exploring Ramadan customs, mutual aid, hospitality, and tolerance. Traditions passed down unchanged from generation to generation, along with Ottoman cuisine and its preparation processes, form essential elements of the story.

The central character, Ahmet, is a yamak working under his master. He participates in preparing meals for Ramadan and is integrated into the narrative as part of the kitchen staff. The story unfolds around the relationship between Ahmet and Dilruba. The two characters meet in a shop filled with the scent of spices and develop a romantic bond. In the first season, their relationship culminates in marriage. In the second season, war becomes a pivotal development in the characters’ lives, and the theme of separation is explored.

The series examines the lifestyle of the Ottoman era, Ramadan-specific practices, and culinary culture within a dramatic fictional framework.
