Yalova City Forest

Yalova City Forest is a recreational area located within the boundaries of the Teşvikiye village in the Çınarcık district of Yalova province, in Türkiye’s Marmara Region. The area has been organized for recreational use while preserving its natural vegetation. It holds significant value as an urban green space at the regional level due to its ecological diversity and accessibility for social activities.

Yalova City Forest is situated approximately 29 kilometers from the center of Yalova province, in the southeast of Çınarcık district. The forested area lies on natural terrain rising from the village of Teşvikiye, and access is provided via asphalt and stabilized roads using private vehicles. Although there are no regular public transportation services to the site, visitor numbers increase significantly on weekends due to private car usage.

Yalova City Forest features an extensive forested structure, and its topography, shaped by stream beds, enhances its natural landscape value. Walking trails, picnic areas, viewpoints, waterfalls, and resting terraces within the area enable visitors to spend time immersed in nature. One of the forest’s most well-known sites, the Çifte Şelale, is among the region’s key natural attractions. The area around the waterfall is frequently chosen for walking and photography.

Fixed tables, seating groups, fountains, restrooms, and a small mosque within the picnic areas create an environment suitable for day visits. In addition, directional signage is provided for hikers, and resting points are established in forest clearings.

Yalova City Forest benefits from a rich forest ecosystem due to its location on the western slopes of the Samanlı Mountains, which have a humid climate. The area is dominated by broadleaf tree species such as beech, oak, chestnut, and hornbeam. This vegetation, particularly during autumn when leaves change color, significantly increases visual diversity and transforms the forest into a seasonally valuable landscape. In addition to trees, the understory includes various ferns, shrub formations, and wildflower species. This biodiversity presents important potential for the ecological sustainability of the forest.

The City Forest serves not only as a natural area but also fulfills an important social function. It is heavily used by the local population on weekends and holidays for picnics, nature walks, and outdoor activities. This area, favored by families, walking groups, and nature enthusiasts, functions as an alternative relaxation space for those seeking escape from urban stress.

Yalova City Forest is managed under the cooperation of the General Directorate of Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, with the status of a recreational area. The site has been developed with a focus on preserving its natural character and avoiding urbanization. However, increasing visitor numbers, vehicle use, littering, and irregular use of water sources occasionally exceed the area’s carrying capacity, posing various sustainability risks. Therefore, to ensure its long-term preservation, conscious use by both local communities and visitors must be encouraged, and infrastructure capacity should be planned according to seasonal demand.
