Terme Fen High School

Terme Science High School, is a public school under the Ministry of National Education of Türkiye, located in Kozluk Neighborhood, Terme District, Samsun Province. The school, with institutional code 759879, is situated 74 km from the provincial center and 17 km from the district center.^【1】

^{Okul Bahçesi} (Terme Fen Lisesi)

The foundation of the school was laid in 2013 through donations from the OMV company operating in the region and contributions from the then mayor of Terme, Şenol Kul. The institution began operations in the 2015–2016 academic year under the name Kozluk OMV Science High School and admitted its first students through the centralized examination system in the same year.

In the 2017–2018 academic year, the school transitioned to the status of a “Project School” within the framework of science high schools. It graduated its first cohort in the 2018–2019 academic year, and its name was officially changed to Terme Science High School in the 2022–2023 academic year.^【2】

The institution operates in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Türkiye and the Fundamental Law of National Education, under the authority of the Terme District National Education Directorate. The administration and operation of the school are conducted within the framework of the Fundamental Law of National Education No. 1739, the Public Financial Management and Control Law No. 5018, and the Regulations on Secondary Education Institutions. Institutional strategies are determined within the scope of the 2024–2028 Strategic Plan, which is aligned with the higher policy documents of the Ministry of National Education.^【3】

The school follows a full-day education model. Classes begin at 08:20 or 08:30 and conclude at 15:50. The first foreign language is English and the second foreign language is German; there is no preparatory class. Educational activities are carried out with a mission that promotes not only academic achievement but also scientific research and critical thinking. The school’s vision is to be an institution that prepares its students for success through scientific and academic education while shaping their character.^【4】

Student admissions are conducted based on scores from the centralized examination (LGS/TEOG) organized by the Ministry of National Education. According to 2015–2016 data, the school’s maximum score was 480.90 and its minimum score was 451.69–451.99.

The total capacity of the school is 480 students, with four sections opened at each grade level. Registration procedures, transfer processes, and scholarship applications are completed within one working day in accordance with the Regulations on Secondary Education Institutions.^【5】

The school campus consists of an educational building and a dormitory. The main building includes 16 classrooms, physics and chemistry laboratories, an information technology laboratory, a library, and art and music classrooms. The campus also includes dormitory buildings with a capacity of 180 female and 180 male students, equipped with a base system and 24-hour hot water, as well as a teacher housing complex of 10 apartments. Social facilities include an indoor sports hall, an indoor futsal court, a tennis court, and outdoor basketball and volleyball courts.^【6】

The administrative structure of the institution comprises the principal, the deputy principal, and two assistant principals. As of March 2024, the principal is Sait Tuğ. The staff consists of 29 teachers (in literature, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography, English, religious culture and ethics, philosophy, physical education, German, visual arts, and guidance), one nurse, one chef, two assistant chefs, and other auxiliary service personnel, totaling 39 individuals.^【7】

As of the 2023–2024 academic year, the school has a total of 398 students, of whom 181 are male and 217 are female. By grade level, there are 110 students in the 9th grade, 107 in the 10th grade, 93 in the 11th grade, and 88 in the 12th grade.

Some students reside in the dormitory, while others commute via school bus services (170 students) or personal transportation. The overall average absenteeism rate is 2.3 percent.^【8】

Active participation in sports, scientific, and cultural activities is encouraged at the school. The institution hosts 52 licensed athletes and operates four school teams. Additionally, 13 different social clubs have been established. Participation rates in cultural activities range between 81.3 percent and 89.2 percent. Despite the absence of a dedicated conference hall, various academic conferences and seminars are organized on campus.^【9】

Terme Science High School undertakes various national and international projects. Under the Erasmus+ accreditation, mobility programs abroad are implemented, and teachers and students participate in e-Twinning projects. The school holds certifications for “Zero Waste” and “My School Is Clean” under environmental sustainability initiatives. Energy conservation efforts are carried out through the KABEV project, with one of its strategic goals being to increase the number of patents, utility models, and trademark registrations.^【10】
