TEKNOFEST Biotechnology Innovation Competition

TEKNOFEST Biotechnology Innovation Competition is a technology competition organized in line with Türkiye’s domestic and national technology initiative, aiming to support innovative ideas and projects in the field of biotechnology. It is held within the framework of the TEKNOFEST Aviation, Space and Technology Festival, led by the Türkiye Technology Team Foundation (T3 Vakfı) and the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Industry and Technology.

The primary objective of the competition is to enhance Türkiye’s effectiveness in biotechnology, strengthen its global competitiveness through domestic and national solutions, and develop human capital in this field. Participants are encouraged to develop innovative ideas in critical areas such as healthcare, agriculture, environment and bioremediation. The competition also aims to contribute to Türkiye’s biotechnology ecosystem by training young engineers and scientists.

Biotechnology is one of the most strategic scientific disciplines of the modern era, enabling the development of plants, animals and microorganisms through DNA technologies. This technology generates revolutionary solutions in numerous sectors including human health, food security, environmental cleanup and industry. Particularly, developed countries are making substantial investments in biotechnology to achieve global leadership in this field. In contrast, less developed countries risk becoming dependent on imported biotechnological products and services, thereby exposing critical areas such as healthcare and food to significant risks.

Students at associate, undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels, as well as individuals who graduated within the last three years, are eligible to participate. Participants may apply in teams of at least two and at most five members. The competition consists of three main stages: preliminary evaluation, project presentation and final round. Rigorous assessment is conducted across all stages based on criteria such as originality, scientific merit and feasibility.

The TEKNOFEST Biotechnology Innovation Competition is not merely a contest but a strategic step toward achieving sustainable development goals. Covering a broad spectrum including genetic engineering, environmental biotechnology, biopharmaceutical production and food technologies, the competition promotes the use of biotechnology for public benefit. The projects and ideas emerging from the competition are shaping both scientific and economic development.
