Spider-Man 3 (Original title: Spider-Man 3) is a 2007 science fiction, adventure, fantasy, and action film directed by Sam Raimi and written by Sam Raimi, Ivan Raimi, and Alvin Sargent. Based on Marvel comic books, it is the final installment of the trilogy following Spider-Man (2002) and Spider-Man 2 (2004). Produced in the United States, the film was released on 4 May 2007 and explores Peter Parker’s internal conflicts and his battles with new enemies.^【1】

The story begins with Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) finally finding balance between his responsibilities as Spider-Man and his relationship with Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst). As Peter believes his life is falling into place and plans to propose to Mary Jane, a black, symbiotic alien entity descends to Earth from space. While Peter sleeps, the entity fuses with his Spider-Man suit, turning it black and significantly enhancing his powers. However, the symbiote also brings out Peter’s darker, more arrogant, and vengeful traits.

Peter’s former friend Harry Osborn (James Franco) continues to blame Spider-Man for his father Norman Osborn’s death. Using his father’s technology, Harry assumes the identity of the New Goblin and attacks Peter. During a violent aerial battle, Harry sustains a head injury and suffers memory loss regarding both his father’s death and Peter’s secret identity.

Meanwhile, Flint Marko (Thomas Haden Church), who escapes from prison, accidentally falls into a particle accelerator while fleeing from police. His molecular structure is altered, transforming him into the Sandman, a being capable of controlling sand. Peter soon discovers that Flint Marko was the real killer of his uncle Ben Parker. Under the influence of the black suit, Peter becomes more aggressive and pursues the Sandman with vengeance. He defeats him in an underground sewer, causing him to disintegrate into sand.

Peter’s selfish and arrogant behavior under the symbiote’s influence damages his relationship with Mary Jane. Struggling with career and personal challenges, Mary Jane finds comfort in Harry, who has regained his memories and resumed his vendetta against Spider-Man. Peter also uncovers that Eddie Brock (Topher Grace), a rival photographer at The Daily Bugle, is using doctored photos to smear Spider-Man’s reputation; Brock is fired and begins to harbor intense hatred toward Peter.

Peter realizes the black suit has corrupted him, stripped him of control, and harmed those he loves, and decides to rid himself of it. Going to the bell tower of a church, Peter uses the sonic vibrations from the bells to separate from the symbiote. However, the alien entity, by chance, fuses with Eddie Brock inside the same church, transforming him into the dangerous character Venom. Venom and the surviving Sandman form an alliance to destroy Spider-Man and take Mary Jane hostage in a massive construction site.

Unable to face both powerful enemies alone, Peter seeks help from Harry. Harry initially refuses, but learns the truth when his servant Bernard reveals that Norman Osborn’s glider was responsible for his own death. Harry then joins Peter in battle, sacrificing himself to shield Peter from Venom’s attack and sustaining fatal injuries. Peter creates sonic vibrations using metal pipes at the construction site, weakening the symbiote, and uses one of Harry’s pumpkin bombs to destroy it. Eddie Brock dies in the explosion while attempting to rejoin the symbiote.

After the battle, the Sandman confesses to Peter that he did not knowingly kill his uncle Ben; he needed money to save his sick daughter and the incident was an accident. After Peter forgives him, Marko transforms into a sandstorm and departs. The film ends with Peter and Mary Jane silently embracing and dancing in a jazz club following Harry’s funeral.

With an estimated budget of $258 million, principal photography took place largely in Chicago, Illinois.^【2】 The film’s cinematography was handled by Bill Pope, editing by Bob Murawski, and music composed by Christopher Young.

Director Sam Raimi designed the opening credits to display key moments from the first two films as if they were stuck to spider webs. One notable incident during production occurred during the subway scene, when Thomas Haden Church broke three finger joints by punching a real brick in a set prop.

The film’s technical specifications include a 2.39:1 aspect ratio and Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby Atmos audio mixes. In 2017, Sony released a special version titled “Editor’s Cut,” which is two minutes shorter than the theatrical version and features alternative, restructured scenes. Minor continuity errors in the costume design — such as changes to the neck collar when the mask is removed — were also documented.

Spider-Man 3 earned $151,116,516 in its opening weekend in the United States and Canada, reaching a total of $336,032,318 in that region. Its worldwide gross amounted to $887,415,130.

Distributed in Türkiye by Warner Bros. Türkiye, the film attracted 211,786 viewers during its opening weekend and generated ₺1,784,226 in revenue. Over a total of 25 weeks in theaters, it was watched by 742,294 viewers and achieved a final gross of ₺6,642,175.^【3】
