Silifke Atatürk House Museum (Mersin)
Silifke Atatürk Evi Müzesi is a private house where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Türkiye, once stayed. The transformation of a residence into a museum reflects the significance of the person who lived there. Have you ever wondered why it is so important to see the places where a leader lived? This house is an important structure that shows us how Atatürk lived as an ordinary citizen.

How Did the House Become a Museum?
This two-story house was built in 1914. Atatürk spent one night here during his first visit to Silifke on 27 January 1925. In 1982, our state acquired the property to preserve its historical importance. Acquisition means transferring ownership to the state. After restoration, the house was opened to the public on 2 January 1987 as the Atatürk Evi ve Etnografya Müzesi.

What Is Exhibited in the Museum?
One section of the museum is dedicated to personal belongings of Atatürk and documents related to his visit to Silifke. The furnishings of the bedroom where he spent the night and his dining sets are displayed here. Additionally, documents and photographs concerning Atatürk’s instruction to purchase a farm in Silifke and establish a cooperative are also exhibited. A cooperative is an arrangement in which people come together to engage in joint activities and support each other.
Another section of the museum displays ethnographic artifacts of historical significance from the region. These objects help us understand the daily life, traditions, and arts of the people who lived in Silifke and its surroundings in the past.
