Rüstempaşa Camii (Sakarya)

Rüstempaşa Camii is a historical place of worship located on Mimar Sinan Street in the Sapanca district of Sakarya Province, in the Marmara Region. It is situated 17 kilometers from the center of Sakarya city.

The structure was built in the name of Rüstem Paşa, who served as grand vizier for fifteen years during the reign of Kanuni Sultan Süleyman. Designed by the chief architect of the era, Mimar Sinan, between 1550 and 1560, it was originally part of a külliye comprising a mosque, imaret, bathhouse, and caravanserai. Although this complex is considered one of the important works of the 16th century, not all of its components have survived to the present day; the mosque, however, has remained standing.

Over time, the mosque underwent several modifications and was rebuilt for the second time in the year 1146 of the Hijri calendar. A newly inscribed tablet on the side wall of the mosque bears the inscription "Construction Date of Rüstempaşa Camii 1554".

Rüstempaşa Camii was constructed using a hybrid building technique that combines adobe and wood materials. The building has low walls and is covered by a tile roof resting on a wooden structure. It occupies a total site area of 750 square meters and features an enclosed interior space of 250 square meters, with a capacity to accommodate up to 1,200 worshippers simultaneously. The courtyard of the mosque, which preserves its historical atmosphere, offers visitors a tranquil space for rest.
