Konya Technical University (KTÜN)

Konya Technical University (KTÜN), a public university primarily active in the fields of engineering and technical sciences. The university is located in the city of Konya in Türkiye’s Central Anatolia Region. KTÜN was established as a new higher education institution by Article 179 added to Law No. 2809 through Article 7 of Law No. 7141, published in the Official Gazette No. 30425 on 18 May 2018.

Konya Technical University's institutional history extends back to 1970. The foundational academic units of the university were established during the 1970–1971 academic year as the Engineering and Architecture High School under the Ministry of National Education. One year later, in 1971, this high school was renamed Konya State Engineering and Architecture Academy. In 1982, pursuant to Decree-Law No. 41, the academy was integrated into Selçuk University and transformed into the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture.

For a long period, this faculty operated under the umbrella of Selçuk University. In 2012, it was divided into two separate units: the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Architecture. Finally, in 2018, under Law No. 7141, these two faculties, along with the Vocational School of Technical Sciences, were separated from Selçuk University and unified under the umbrella of Konya Technical University. The same law also established new academic units under the rectorate: the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies, and the Graduate School of Education.

The university’s educational and administrative activities are carried out through two main campuses in the city of Konya:

• Gelişim Campus: This campus hosts the university’s main administrative and management units, as well as the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences and the Faculty of Architecture and Design. The Library and Documentation Directorate is also located here.

• Ardıçlı Campus: This campus is home to the Vocational School of Technical Sciences. It provides laboratory and workshop facilities for applied education at the associate degree level.

Konya Technical University’s academic structure consists of faculties, one institute, and vocational schools focused on technical sciences, design, management, and agricultural sciences.

The university offers education at the associate, undergraduate, and graduate levels. Student admissions are conducted based on national centralized placement examinations (Higher Education Institutions Examination – YKS). According to 2024 reports, the university has a total of 9731 students.^【1】

The university’s academic programs are primarily concentrated in engineering, information technology, architecture, and technical vocational fields.

• Undergraduate Programs: Offered by the Faculties of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Computer and Information Sciences, and Architecture and Design, these include Computer Engineering, Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Surveying Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, Geological Engineering, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Urban and Regional Planning.

• Associate Degree Programs: The Vocational School of Technical Sciences offers technical programs such as Shoe Design and Production, Computer Programming, Electricity, Electronics Technology, Surveying and Cadastre, Construction Technology, Occupational Health and Safety, Chemical Technology, Control and Automation Technology, and Machinery, to train personnel with professional competence.

In line with its internationalization goals, the university has participated in the European Union’s education and mobility program, Erasmus+, since 2004. Under the Erasmus+ program, students are provided opportunities for study, internship, and doctoral mobility. Additionally, national mobility programs such as the Mevlana Exchange Program and the Farabi Exchange Program are also implemented.

• According to the “World Scientists and Universities Rankings” compiled by the international ranking organization AD Scientific Index for 2024, 217 academics from the university were listed. The university ranked 110th among 295 universities in Türkiye.^【2】

Konya Technical University (KTÜN) won a total of nine awards at TEKNOFEST 2024, including three first places, one second place, and two third places.^【3】

• SANCAKTAR Team: Won first place with an innovative UAV platform and control center design capable of simultaneously carrying three UAVs performing joint missions.
• GÖRÜŞNET Team: Won first place by developing a novel chemical coating that penetrates at the microscale on glass surfaces and imparts hydrophobic (water-repellent) properties.
• UAC-Team SGM: Stood out with projects in which five unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) communicate and coordinate synchronously to accomplish assigned tasks.

• RACLAB SIGUN Team: Competed in the Ready Vehicle category of the Robotaksi Autonomous Vehicle Competition, successfully passed the Technical Control Stage, and secured second place among 16 teams.

• EfsunTek Team: Won third place in the Smart WiFi Coverage Area Competition with technological solutions developed under the guidance of the Surveying Engineering Department.
• Serhat Yapıcı (Individual): Won third place in the Pardus Bug Detection and Suggestion Competition for contributions to the development of a domestic operating system.
