Kırşehir Japanese Garden

Kırşehir is home to the Japanese Garden, which reflects traditional elements of Japanese garden art and is regarded as one of the largest Japanese gardens outside Japan.^【1】 Located in the Kırşehir district of Kaman, the garden was constructed as a product of cultural relations between Japan and Türkiye and constitutes a landscape area where natural elements are harmoniously arranged.^【2】

The Kırşehir Japanese Garden was established within the framework of friendship relations between Türkiye and Japan, with the aim of introducing Japanese garden culture and strengthening cultural ties between the two countries.

Planning for the Japanese Garden took place between 1988 and 1989, construction was completed between 1990 and 1993, and it was opened to the public in 1993.^【3】

The Japanese Garden is located in the Kaman district of Kırşehir and covers an area of approximately 21,620 square meters.^【4】 Situated in a region dominated by steppe climate, the garden attracts attention through its vegetation and layout, which contrast sharply with the surrounding environment. Water features, walking paths, and plant arrangements are combined within the space to reflect Japanese garden aesthetics.

The design of the Kırşehir Japanese Garden is based on the fundamental principles of Japanese gardening, including naturalness, simplicity, balance, and aesthetic harmony. The garden features plant species native to Japan and other varieties. These include Japanese cherry, Japanese willow, Japanese apple, Japanese plum, and Japanese quince.^【5】 In addition to culturally specific Japanese plant species, the garden also incorporates species adapted to the local climate.^【6】 Particularly during autumn months, the changing colors of the plants create a distinct visual atmosphere within the garden.
