Kayme Palace

Kayme Palace is a historical structure located in the village of Bağlar, within the Şemdinli district of Hakkari Province, Türkiye. Built during the Ottoman period in the early 20th century, the palace is situated within one of the region’s former settlement areas. It holds cultural significance due to its architectural features and historical context. Following restoration efforts, certain parts of the structure have been preserved and have survived to the present day.

Kayme Palace is situated on the northern edge of the old settlement area of Bağlar Village in Şemdinli, to the west of the village houses. The building has a rectangular plan oriented north-south and was constructed as a two-storey structure. According to inscriptions, construction took place between 1912 and 1914. While some sources suggest the building was completed between 1909 and 1911, no names appear on the inscriptions, and it is generally believed to have been commissioned by Seyit Muhammad Siddiq, son of Seyit Ubeydullah.

The palace measures 18.8 by 24 metres, with its main entrance located on the northern facade. Inscriptions dated 1330 (1912) and 1332 (1914) are positioned on the right and left corners of the entrance. The northern and western walls remain in good condition, while the eastern and southern walls have partially survived. The roof of the structure has been completely destroyed.
