I Am Obligated to You (Book)

Attila İlhan’s poetry collection Ben Sana Mecburum was published in 1960. Attila İlhan, one of the leading poets of Turkish literature, presents in this work poems shaped around both personal and social themes.

Work consists of five sections containing more than fifty poems in total. The section titles are respectively: Living in Suspension, Tension é Smyrne, Homeland Air, The Impossible love, and hell Circle.

The work explores themes such as love, loneliness, alienation, existential anguish, social criticism, and the political atmosphere of the era like.

At the end of the book there is a section titled “Notes for the Curious.” In this section, the poet shares various reflections, memories, and insights about the work and its poems—including how and where they were written.
