Hittite University (HİTÜ)

Hitit University is a public university established by Law No. 5467, which came into effect on 17 March 2006. The university is located in the Çorum province of Türkiye. Hitit University’s foundation is based on academic units previously affiliated with Gazi University and situated in Çorum. These units were reorganized in 2006 as a new and independent university.

During its establishment, units from Gazi University including the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Theology, Vocational School of Higher Education and School of Health Sciences were transferred to Hitit University.

The university has been designated as a specialized institution in the field of Mechanical and Manufacturing Technologies under the Higher Education Regional Development-Oriented Mission Differentiation and Specialization Project.^【1】 It conducts educational activities with 11 faculties, 1 institute, 1 school and 7 vocational schools. The university also has 1 Education and Research Hospital and 20 application and research centers.

The main campus of the university is the North Campus, which houses most of the academic and administrative units. Health services and applied medical education are carried out at the Erol Olçok Education and Research Hospital located in the city center. Academic units also provide education at campuses in districts such as Alaca, İskilip, Osmancık and Sungurlu.

There are 19,418 enrolled students at the university. The total number of graduates is 42,922.^【2】 Student admissions are conducted through the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS). The university also provides education to more than 1,200 international students from 60 countries, ranging from Europe to North Africa, Central Asian Republics, the Middle East, the Balkans and the Caucasus.

Hitit University offers undergraduate and associate degree programs through its various academic units.

Undergraduate Programs: Undergraduate education is provided in fields such as Anthropology, Archaeology, Nutrition and Dietetics, Computer Engineering, Child Development, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Finance and Banking, Nursing, Economics, Theology, Business Administration, Mechanical Engineering, Public Finance, Mathematics, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Health Administration, Political Science and Public Administration (in Turkish and English), Social Work, Sports Management, History, Medicine, Turkish Language and Literature, International Relations (in English), International Trade and Logistics, and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Some departments (Anthropology, Archaeology, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Molecular Biology and Genetics, History, Turkish Language and Literature) are located within more than one faculty.

These programs are delivered through central and district vocational schools.

To support international mobility, the university participates in the Erasmus+, Mevlana and Farabi exchange programs. At the international level, it has signed 150 agreements including 71 bilateral partnerships with universities from 47 countries, 53 agreements under Mevlana and 40 under Erasmus+. These agreements cover student and academic staff exchange, internships, international events and joint research projects.^【3】

• Specialization Area: It has been designated by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) as the sole higher education institution specialized in the field of Mechanical and Manufacturing Technologies.^【4】

• Rankings: In the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings (universities under 50 years old), it was placed in the 601+ band. Among state universities established in Türkiye after 2000, it ranked 6th in the education subcategory and 10th in the research environment category.^【5】

• Accessibility Awards: In the “2024 Accessible Universities Awards” organized by YÖK, four buildings (Faculty of Sports Sciences, Sungurlu Vocational School, Faculty of Theology, Graduate School of Education, School of Foreign Languages and the North Campus Social Life Center) were awarded the Accessibility in Space Award (Orange Flag). Including previous awards, the university holds a total of nine Orange Flags and one Accessible Program Badge.^【6】

• Scientific Achievement: Students from the Faculty of Engineering developed ASİST BM4, a basketball shooting machine that tracks players using facial recognition technology, entirely designed and programmed by themselves at the Çorum TGB Technopark. This product was successfully completed under the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology’s techno-venture capital support program.^【7】

• Academic Achievement Awards:
• • Faculty of Health Sciences: In the 2023 Academic Achievement Awards, it received second place in the Community Service category. Additionally, faculty members Prof. Dr. Nuriye Büyükkayacı Duman, Prof. Dr. Selen Özakar Akça, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Menekşe Şahin, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yeliz Bolat, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nisa Gökden Kaya and Lecturer Filiz Selen received awards and certificates in various categories.^【8】

• Student Clubs: In the 2021-2022 academic year, the Nutrition and Dietetics Club ranked first, the Yeşilay Club ranked second and the Hitit Art Atelier Club ranked third among clubs with the highest point totals from their activities.^【9】

• Unit Awards: Under the Academy Achievement Awards, the Music Department was honored for its projects and events; the Painting Department was awarded for its exhibitions, projects and activities. The Director of the School of Health Services, Prof. Dr. Kadir Erol, received the “Office and Laboratory Material Support” award due to the unit’s leadership in organizing the highest number of projects and activities under community service.^【10】

On the North Campus, students have access to dining halls, cafeterias, student club workspaces, conference halls, and a congress and culture center. Accommodation is provided through dormitories operated by the Credit and Hostels Institution (KYK), private dormitories and apartments.
