Bey Neighborhood

Bey Mahallesi is a historic neighborhood within the boundaries of Gaziantep’s Şahinbey district. It is one of the key settlements reflecting the historical and cultural identity of the city and is among the neighborhoods that have largely preserved their traditional urban fabric.

Bey Mahallesi is located in the urban center of Gaziantep within the boundaries of Şahinbey district. As part of the historic core of the city, its central position establishes strong connections with surrounding significant historical and commercial areas. To the north lie residential and commercial zones opening toward the city center, to the south are neighborhoods continuing the traditional residential fabric, to the east are the historic bazaar district and urban commercial areas, and to the west are historic settlements linked to the area around Gaziantep Kalesi. Due to this location, Bey Mahallesi serves as a transitional zone between the historic center and the modern urban fabric.

Bey Mahallesi is recognized in Gaziantep’s collective memory as one of its historic settlements. Over time it has been influenced by various historical periods, and some structures have suffered physical deterioration. However, from the 2000s onward, restoration and streetscape improvement projects were carried out in the neighborhood, ensuring the preservation and adaptive reuse of its historic buildings.
