Yunus Babacan is an electrical and electronic engineer and academic. He currently serves as Dean and Professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University. His primary academic research areas are electrical and electronic engineering and circuit theory.
Yunus Babacan was born in Erzincan in 1986. He completed his high school education in 2004 at Erzincan Anatolian High School and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2008 from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Atatürk University Faculty of Engineering. He completed his master’s studies between 2008 and 2011 at the Institute of Natural Sciences of Atatürk University. He earned his PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Institute of Natural Sciences of Istanbul University between 2012 and 2016.
He began his academic career in 2010 as a research assistant at Gümüşhane University. He worked as a research assistant at Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University between 2011 and 2012 and at Istanbul University between 2012 and 2017. In 2017 he was appointed as Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University. He was promoted to Associate Professor at the same institution in 2019 and to Professor in 2024. In 2025 he was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. As part of his international experience he served as a visiting researcher at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis in 2012, at the University of Southampton in 2014 and at the Georgia Institute of Technology between 2015 and 2016.
Yunus Babacan’s research encompasses electrical and electronic engineering circuit theory electronic circuit design printed circuits and thin/film and hybrid integrated circuits. His specific research areas include memory circuit elements based on memristors memcapacitors and meminductors as well as neuromorphic circuits and chaotic systems.
