Yasser Arafat (full name: Muhammad Abd al-Rauf al-Qudwa al-Husseini; 24 August 1929, Cairo – 11 November 2004, Clamart) was a leading figure in the 20th century’s Palestine national movement and one of the founders of Fatah (Palestinian National Liberation Movement) and Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). Arafat shifted the Palestinian cause from armed struggle to diplomatic negotiations, becoming one of the defining figures in both regional and international politics during this period. In 1994, he was awarded Nobel Peace Prize for his role in the Oslo Accords. He died on 11 November 2004 at the age of 75. (See: Yasser Arafat)
