Warframe is an online, multiplayer, action-role-playing video game developed and published by Digital Extremes. The game takes place in a science fiction universe where players control ancient warriors known as “Tenno.” It was first released on Microsoft Windows in 2013 and has since become available on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Epic Games Store, and mobile devices. Warframe is primarily free-to-play and includes optional in-game purchases.

In Warframe, players complete various missions as Tenno, bio-mechanical warriors. Each Warframe possesses unique abilities and playstyles. The game is primarily PvE (player versus environment) focused and can be played solo or cooperatively with up to four players. Missions involve diverse objectives such as defeating enemies, gathering resources, protecting objects, or completing specific targets.

Mods are upgrades used to enhance the statistics of Warframes, weapons, and companions. Players collect mods from completing missions or defeating enemies to customize their characters. The mod system plays a decisive role in gameplay progression and character power.

Mastery Rank indicates the player’s overall progression level. Gaining Mastery Points is achieved by using new equipment, completing missions, and exploring. As the rank increases, more content and gameplay mechanics become accessible.

The companion system in Warframe, referred to as “companions,” provides support to players during combat. These companions can be robotic (Sentinel) or biological (Kavat, Kubrow) in nature. Each has distinct traits and can be strengthened through modifications.

Warframe features an extensive customization system. Players can personalize the appearance of their Warframes, weapons, ships, and companions. These customizations are obtained using in-game credits or the premium currency “Platinum.” Additionally, players can create personal styles using cosmetic items, skins, and color palettes.

Nightwave is a periodic progression system offered to players. Through this system, players earn special rewards and resources by completing designated missions. Nightwave is structured as thematic seasons accompanied by narrative elements, providing players with continuous goals beyond in-game events.

In addition to closed mission areas, Warframe includes open world regions. Areas such as the Plains of Eidolon, Orb Vallis, and Cambion Drift offer players a different gameplay experience through activities like free exploration, resource gathering, hunting, and fishing. These regions feature day-night cycles and dynamic weather conditions.

Syndicates represent the in-game faction system. Players can form alliances with specific syndicates to earn unique missions, gear, and rewards. Each syndicate has its own ideology and in-game influence. Relationships with syndicates can positively or negatively change depending on the player’s chosen affiliation.
