Veyisoğlu Village Monumental Tree

The monument tree located within the boundaries of Veyisoğlu Village, in the Gökçebey district of Zonguldak province, is situated in the area known locally as “Kocameşe Mevkii.” Access to this natural feature is possible via road, as it lies at a relatively short distance from the district center. The tree is integrated into the village settlement, and basic environmental landscaping has been carried out around it.

The Veyisoğlu Village Monument Tree belongs to the species Quercus ithaburensis, also known as the Mount Tabor oak. According to data published by the Zonguldak Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, the tree has a trunk diameter of 2.10 meters, a crown spread of 21 meters, and a total height of approximately 18 meters. Due to its size and age, the tree is among the most remarkable natural specimens in the region.

This individual of the Mount Tabor oak species is estimated to be approximately 500 years old. This age qualifies it as one of the oldest and most monumental trees officially registered in Zonguldak province. The tree has been placed under protection with the status of Monument Tree in accordance with legislation for the preservation of natural heritage. The registration process was conducted by the Karabük Regional Board for the Protection of Cultural and Natural Heritage, and the relevant information has been officially published in a public document.

The tree is environmentally protected; its surroundings are enclosed by a wooden fence designed to safeguard it. This fencing structure was installed to prevent visitors from causing damage to the tree, and the local community takes care to maintain cleanliness in its vicinity.
