Van Ferit Melen Airport

Van Ferit Melen Airport is located approximately 8 km from the city center of Van in eastern Türkiye. It has been constructed parallel to the shoreline of Van Lake, the largest lake in Türkiye.

The airport features a total covered area of 16,500 m², including domestic and international passenger terminals administrative units and various public and specialized service units. It operates on a 24 hour continuous service basis.

A parking area with a capacity of 408 vehicles is located in front of the terminal building. Special parking areas for passengers with disabilities are also available.

The domestic terminal has been constructed with a total covered area of 8,750 m² and is equipped with various service areas for arriving and departing passengers.

Transportation between the airport and city city center is provided by Van Metropolitan Municipality buses public buses and taxis.

The airport which handles an average of 5,000 flights and over 600,000 passengers annually has undergone modernization of its security infrastructure. Existing surveillance systems have been reconfigured on an IP-based platform and integrated with card-based access control systems.

• A new communication infrastructure has been established using Extreme Networks switches and equipment.
• Thanks to the integrated structure all data is managed from a single central location.
• The infrastructure has been designed with redundancy to prevent system failures.
• As a result continuous data flow has been ensured and security levels have been enhanced.

A large-scale development project is currently underway at Van Ferit Melen Airport. The official name of the project is:

Van Ferit Melen Airport Runway Construction Repair and Parallel Taxiway Construction.

• Scope: Construction and repair of PAT (Runway End Safety Areas) and construction of a parallel taxiway

This project aims to enhance flight safety and increase the airports capacity.

The airport is managed by the Directorate General of State Airports Authority (DHMİ) under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Türkiye.
