TÜBA Young Academy

TÜBA Young Academy, is an academic structure that brings together scientists in the early and mid-career stages in Türkiye. Established in 2019, the Academy operates under the umbrella of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) and aims to promote scientific research and interdisciplinary collaboration among young academics.

The TÜBA Young Academy was established on 30 November 2019 by decision of the TÜBA Academy Council. Its establishment is linked to previous support mechanisms for early-career researchers, such as TÜBA’s Outstanding Young Scientists Award Program (GEBİP), which has recognized high-achieving young researchers since 2001. The Academy’s charter was adopted in October 2022, defining its institutional structure and membership criteria. Following the completion of organizational preparations, it began public activities in 2025.

The Academy is governed by a General Assembly comprising all members and a Board of Management responsible for coordinating activities. The Board of Management was first elected by the TÜBA Academy Council in November 2025. Members are organized under three main scientific fields: natural and engineering sciences, social and human sciences, and health and life sciences.

Membership is primarily awarded to recipients of the TÜBA-GEBİP award upon approval by the TÜBA Academy Council. Other pathways for membership evaluation include nomination by TÜBA members or receipt of similar awards such as the TÜBİTAK Encouragement Award or the Aziz Sancar Encouragement Award. Candidates are evaluated by the TÜBA Academy Council and submitted to the General Assembly for final approval. Membership is generally limited to researchers under the age of 45.

The Academy organizes meetings, working groups, and academic events to promote interdisciplinary collaboration. Funding is provided through the TÜBA budget primarily for collective activities such as conferences, workshops, and publications rather than individual research support. The Academy also participates in international networks and platforms alongside other young academies and scientific organizations.
