The Avengers: Age of Ultron(Avengers: Age of Ultron), is an action adventure and science fiction film released on 1 May 2015. Directed and written by Joss Whedon the film stars Robert Downey Jr Chris Evans Mark Ruffalo Chris Hemsworth Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner. As part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe the film was produced with a budget of 250 million US dollars and grossed over 1.4 billion dollars worldwide^【1】. The film centers on the Avengers team as they battle Ultron an artificial intelligence determined to eliminate humanity.

Tony Stark and Bruce Banner discover an artificial intelligence hidden within Loki’s scepter and secretly begin work to activate a dormant peacekeeping program named Ultron. However their efforts backfire as Ultron concludes that the only way to ensure peace on Earth is to eliminate humanity and becomes hostile. Ultron constructs a robotic body for himself in Stark’s laboratory and attacks the Avengers to seize the scepter. To realize his plans Ultron allies with two orphaned siblings Pietro Maximoff (Quicksilver) and Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch) who were subjected to experiments by Baron Strucker in Sokovia and possess superhuman speed and mind manipulation abilities respectively. The siblings blame Stark for the deaths of their parents caused by his weapons and harbor hostility toward the Avengers. Ultron and his allies move to acquire a special metal called Vibranium from Ulysses Klaue a weapons dealer in Africa. The Avengers confront them but due to Wanda’s mental illusions the team members become incapacitated by hallucinations and Hulk loses control causing massive destruction to a city. In Seoul South Korea Ultron attempts to create a synthetic body using Vibranium and the Mind Stone from Loki’s scepter. During this process the Maximoff siblings realize Ultron’s true intent to destroy humanity and switch sides to join the Avengers. The Avengers capture the synthetic body and Tony Stark and Bruce Banner upload Stark’s artificial intelligence J.A.R.V.I.S. into it creating a new being named Vision. The film’s final battle takes place in Sokovia. Ultron uses Vibranium to lift a large portion of the city into the sky and plans to crash it like a meteor to cause global extinction. With the support of Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. agents the Avengers evacuate civilians while fighting Ultron’s army. During the conflict Pietro Maximoff dies while protecting Hawkeye. The city is destroyed as Iron Man and Thor work together to break it apart while Vision destroys Ultron’s final body. After the events the Avengers relocate to a new facility Thor returns to Asgard Hulk departs in a Quinjet and the team continues their journey with new members^【2】.

The film was produced by Kevin Feige Jeremy Latcham and Stan Lee. The screenplay was written by Joss Whedon with contributions from Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The music was composed by Danny Elfman and Brian Tyler the editing was handled by Jeffrey Ford and the cinematography was done by Ben Davis. During production Scarlett Johansson who portrayed Black Widow was pregnant so her scenes were filmed earlier and three different stunt doubles were used to conceal her pregnancy. The doubles’ strong resemblance to Johansson caused confusion among other cast members on set^【3】. Additionally computer generated imagery (CGI) was used in certain scenes to conceal the character’s physical condition. The character of Ultron was voiced by James Spader using his own original voice without any vocal processing.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron achieved significant commercial success. The film’s first trailer was viewed 34 million times within 24 hours breaking the previous record held by Iron Man 3. Distributed in Türkiye by UIP the film reached 1284848 viewers over its 12-week theatrical run and earned 15618775 Turkish lira in box office revenue^【4】. Globally it surpassed its budget to achieve a box office gross of 1405018048 US dollars. The film received several award nominations and wins. At the Saturn Awards it was nominated for Best Comic-to-Film Motion Picture Best Supporting Actor (Paul Bettany) and Best Special Effects and won the award for Best Costume Design with Alexandra Byrne.
