Taha Kılınç, a journalist, writer, and researcher known for his work on history, politics, and culture in Türkiye. He has drawn attention through his works focusing particularly on the historical background of the Islamic world, its contemporary political transformations, and social issues. Through his opinion columns, lectures, and travelogues, he has produced observations and analyses on the Middle East and the Islamic world.
Taha Kılınç was born on 24 September 1980 in the Anamur district of Mersin. He is the first child of a mechanical engineer father and a homemaker mother. The social and cultural environment in which he grew up provided the foundation for his early interest in the Islamic world, Middle Eastern history, and social issues.

After completing his primary education at Anamur Atatürk Primary School, he continued his studies in Istanbul. He graduated from Kartal Anatolian Imam Hatip High School in 1999 and from the Faculty of Theology at Istanbul University in 2003. Influenced by his family’s close engagement with politics and his upbringing, Kılınç turned toward the Islamic world and spent a period in Syria during university to study Arabic.

During his undergraduate and graduate studies, he worked at Marifet Publications in Cağaloğlu, Istanbul, the center of the publishing industry. This period enabled him to establish lasting connections with many figures in the press, publishing, culture, arts, and literary circles. Between 2003 and 2006, he was part of the editorial team of the magazine Söz Ola, published by Erkam Publications. He then worked for many years as a writer for the magazine Genç, which began publication after that. Between 2006 and 2009, he served as chief advisor for press and publications at Hadımköy Municipality.
He documented his first international experience in Syria in 2005 in a work titled Şam Kitabı. Between 2009 and 2010, he resided in New York City, USA, to study English and later pursue a master’s degree in Middle Eastern studies.

From 2011 to 2016, following the onset of the Arab Spring, he became actively involved in journalism as foreign news editor and later foreign news director at the newspaper Sabah. During this period, he undertook multiple trips to various regions of Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, maintaining the field-based dimension of his profession. In 2016, Kılınç began writing opinion columns for the newspaper Yeni Şafak. From this point onward, he shifted focus toward book projects and intensified his authorship, producing works centered on historical, cultural, and contemporary issues related to the Islamic world.
In 2018, he assumed the role of general director of Mecra, a digital platform launched that year. In 2021, he became general director of the monthly magazine Derin Tarih.

Taha Kılınç’s work is largely based on field observations. Through his journalistic and research activities, he has traveled extensively across various regions of Europe, Africa, the Balkans, and the Middle East. During these journeys, he has focused particularly on urban history, cultural memory, Islamic civilization, and processes of social transformation.
His travel and research destinations include significant centers of Islamic history and culture such as Damascus, Cairo, Isfahan, Nicosia, Morocco, Rhodes, India, Uzbekistan, and Spain. These cities and regions are examined in his works along the axes of historical continuity, civilizational accumulation, and cultural change.

In the course of his research, he has undertaken numerous journeys, particularly using field observations from the Islamic world as a core component of his work. He integrates his on-site findings into his books within historical and social contexts.
He shares his research and travel experiences in programs organized by universities, foundations, cultural centers, and student groups. At these events, he speaks on topics such as the Islamic world, the Ottoman heritage, Jerusalem, travel culture, and field research, conveying the observations and experiences he has gathered through his journalistic activities.
Married and the father of three children, Taha Kılınç continues to live in Istanbul. He continues his travels to various regions of the Islamic world and shares the knowledge and experience he has accumulated through his writings, books, periodic lectures, and conferences with the public.
