Sümer High School of Science

Sümer Fen Lisesi is a secondary education institution operating under the authority of the Ministry of National Education of Türkiye, located in the Sümer Neighborhood of the Kocasinan District in Kayseri Province. The school is situated at Kazım Yedekçioğlu Street No: 5 within the Sümer Campus and is one kilometer away from the center of Kayseri Province and district. The institution has adopted a full-day education model, with instructional hours ranging from 08:20 to 15:25.^【1】

Sümer Fen Lisesi was established in accordance with the general and specific objectives of Türkiye’s national education system. The institution’s core vision is built upon the values and goals of the nation, aiming to become a school of high academic achievement and widespread preference.

The school’s purpose is to equip students with the knowledge and skills required by the contemporary era, guided by the principles of universal law, democracy, and human rights; to teach them how to learn; and to ensure their effective use of the Turkish language.^【2】

Sümer Fen Lisesi is an institution integrated into the administrative and academic hierarchy of the Ministry of National Education. It aligns with national education policies and is integrated into national platforms and initiatives such as "My Profession Is My Life," "Fatih Project," and "Safe Internet." The school’s institutional identity is defined not only by academic excellence but also by its goal to actively contribute to cultural, social, and artistic domains.^【3】

Classes at the school begin at 08:20 and conclude at 15:25. The language of instruction is Turkish; however, students receive English as their first foreign language and German as their second foreign language. The educational environment is digitally supported through a fiber-optic internet infrastructure implemented under the Fatih Project. The school’s fundamental educational philosophy is to prepare individuals to be motivated and eager to perform their work to the highest standard.^【4】

Sümer Fen Lisesi has an annual student capacity of 120. Student admissions are conducted according to the centralized examination system applicable to science high schools and placement criteria established by the Ministry.^【5】

The campus includes 16 classrooms dedicated to educational activities. To support scientific and technical education, the school has one chemistry laboratory, one biology laboratory, and one information technology (IT) classroom.

Additionally, one workshop has been allocated for students’ practical work. To meet social and physical needs, the campus includes one cafeteria, one infirmary, and one sports hall. The school’s heating requirements are met through a central heating system.^【6】

Sümer Fen Lisesi’s teaching staff consists of 34 teachers. The management and personnel structure operates with an approach aligned with the school’s vision and mission, focused on teaching students how to learn and maintaining academic discipline.^【7】

A total of 357 students are currently enrolled. The student profile consists of academically oriented individuals who aim for high achievement in the fields of natural sciences and mathematics. Student access to the campus is primarily facilitated through municipal buses and school shuttle services.^【8】

To support students’ social and physical development alongside their academic growth, the school maintains a sports hall. The administration encourages active student participation in cultural and artistic activities with the aim of fostering a sense of institutional pride and belonging.^【9】

Sümer Fen Lisesi participates in projects focused on scientific research and technological development. These include the TUBİTAK 4006 Exhibition and the TUBİTAK 4007 Secondary School Students Project Competition.

In addition, the school undertakes project-based initiatives in national-level competitions such as MEB-ROBOT and TEKNOFEST to enhance technological competencies.^【10】
