Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (original title: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) is a 2011 action mystery adventure film directed by Guy Ritchie. Based on characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, it is the sequel to the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes. The lead roles are shared by Sherlock Holmes portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., Dr. John Watson portrayed by Jude Law, and Professor Moriarty portrayed by Jared Harris.

The film follows detective Sherlock Holmes and his partner Dr. Watson as they pursue a case that takes them beyond the borders of London into France, Germany, and Switzerland. Holmes and Watson act to thwart Moriarty’s plan to sabotage a peace summit in Switzerland. During this mission, they are joined by Madame Simza Heron, a Romani fortune-teller searching for her missing brother, who possesses crucial information capable of disrupting Moriarty’s scheme. The film’s climax echoes Arthur Conan Doyle’s story “The Final Problem,” concluding with a chess and physical duel between Holmes and Moriarty on a balcony above a waterfall.
