Şehremini Anatolian High School

Şehremini Anadolu Lisesi is a secondary education institution located in the Çapa neighborhood of the Fatih district in İstanbul, operating under the authority of the Ministry of National Education. Established in the 1950–1951 academic year as an "Application Middle School," the institution currently continues its educational activities under the status of "English Preparation Project Anadolu Lisesi." ^【1】

The institution was established in the 1950–1951 academic year under the name "Application Middle School." Built on the land of the "Derviş Paşa Mansion" following initiatives by Kemal Kaya, educational activities commenced on 3 October 1955 under the name Şehremini Middle School, with Tahir Tezcan appointed as the founding principal.

In the 1970–1971 academic year, the school was restructured to secondary education status. In 2005, by decision of the Ministry of National Education, it adopted the title of Anadolu Lisesi. In 1993, the school opened a foreign language-focused program, and since 2022, it has operated under the status of "English Preparation Project Anadolu Lisesi." The school building underwent seismic reinforcement work during the 2010–2011 academic year and hosted Pertevniyal Lisesi during the 2023–2024 period; beginning in the 2024–2025 academic year, a full-day education model is planned to be implemented.^【2】

Şehremini Anadolu Lisesi operates within an institutional framework aligned with the general aims and principles of the Turkish national education system, grounded in the principles and reforms of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The institution’s vision is to be a school that follows scientific advancements, continuously updates its technological infrastructure, and is among the top choices in university placement exams. Its mission is defined as cultivating individuals committed to contemporary, secular, and national values.

The principles of generality, equality, and democracy are embraced in institutional governance, with decisions made through democratic procedures and the implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) standards forming the foundation of its operations.^【3】

Educational activities at the institution are conducted in accordance with annual plans prepared in line with the curriculum of the Ministry of National Education. The first foreign language is English, and the second foreign language is German. Since 2022, the school has adopted the status of a project school including a preparatory class. Instruction hours run from 08:30 to 15:30, and a full-day education model is applied.

Technology use is prioritized in educational processes, with fiber-optic internet infrastructure and laptop access in every classroom provided under the Fatih Project.^【4】

Student admissions are conducted based on the results of the centralized secondary education transition exam (LGS). The school’s annual student quota is set at 120 students. The school’s minimum score percentile has varied over the years: it was recorded at 1.94% in 2020, 1.84% in 2021, 1.90% in 2022, 1.30–2.21% in 2023, and 1.87% in 2024.^【5】

Şehremini Anadolu Lisesi operates from building number 93 on Turgut Özal Millet Caddesi in the Şehremini neighborhood. The campus includes 23 classrooms, one physics laboratory, one chemistry laboratory, an information technology (IT) classroom equipped with 16 computers, and a library.

The library houses a collection of 6,025 books.

Social facilities include a multi-purpose hall, a sports hall, a gymnastics equipment room, an indoor sports court, social amenities, a conference hall, and workshops. Heating is provided through a natural gas-based radiator system.^【6】

A total of 568 students are currently enrolled. The academic performance level of the student body is high; according to 2024 data, the overall average grade of all students is 94.62. The institution reports a 100% university placement rate for its graduates; prior to its transition to Anadolu and Project Lise status, the university placement rate in its first year was recorded at 75.19%.^【7】

Continuous and systematic sports activities are conducted in football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, and archery to support student development. Within the framework of scientific activities, students participate in national and international events, and scientific projects are organized on designated days. Additionally, club activities and guidance services are systematically implemented with a student-centered approach.^【8】

Various scientific and international projects are carried out within the institution. These include TÜBİTAK 4006 projects, Erasmus+ initiatives, e-Twinning programs, and projects under "School Partnership" and "EKİP." As a result of its successful initiatives, Şehremini Anadolu Lisesi was awarded the title of "e-Twinning School" in 2024.^【9】
