Rıza Tamer Şişman is a Turkish musician known as a lyricist, composer, and singer, originally from Kahramanmaraş. He began his career in the early 2000s by participating in a television talent show and later gained public attention through street performances and social media platforms. The artist spent the final years of his life in the Bodrum district of Muğla and died following a sudden respiratory illness at home. Throughout his career, Tamer faced various challenges and became known for his musical work displayed both on television screens and street stages.
Originally from Kahramanmaraş, Rıza Tamer moved to Istanbul during his youth to pursue a music career and develop his skills. In 2004, at the age of twenty, he joined the second season of Popstar Türkiye, a popular singing competition. This contest became the first platform that brought him recognition among a broad audience.

His attitude during the competition and his dialogues with the judges became topics of public discussion. In response to judge Deniz Seki’s criticism that “You are very rude, you have an annoying attitude,” he replied with memorable phrases such as “If I stay, I will become a star” and “There are many beautiful voices in Türkiye.”
Rıza Tamer completed the competition in third place, marking his official entry into the music industry.
Following Popstar Türkiye, the artist continued his musical output, releasing his first single. Although this debut recording did not achieve major commercial success, Tamer sustained his presence in the music scene through live performances, private events, and stage appearances. In his own compositions, he blended elements of pop and folk music, often exploring themes such as love, separation, the struggle of life, and longing.
His discography includes notable songs such as “Benden Sonra,” “Yan,” “Benim Yerime,” “Beyaz Pabuçlar,” “Hançer,” “Efendim,” “Durum Vahim,” “İlişkimiz Dengesiz,” and “Bu Kadın Hiç Ağlar Mı.” His music is characterized by a simple, narrative lyrical style. On stage, he avoided showmanship, preferring direct eye contact and personal connection with his audience to create an intimate atmosphere. The artist also collaborated with several other musicians, recording a duet with singer Zeynep Bastık and making a studio recording of an unreleased song titled “Deli Kız” with Alya Şahinler.
In later years, Rıza Tamer’s life was shaped by various financial and emotional hardships. During the coronavirus pandemic, he faced economic difficulties and divorced his wife. As a result of these emotional and material losses, he began performing as a street musician. In an interview with the media, he stated that fame had no appealing side and expressed his disdain for money.

Videos of him singing on the streets in the 2020s gained widespread circulation online, marking a turning point in his career. In particular, videos of him performing his song “Benden Sonra” went viral on social media, enabling him to regain public attention, especially among younger audiences.
This period led to his renewed popularity after many years.
In the final phase of his life, the artist resided in the Konacık neighborhood of Bodrum, Muğla. At the age of forty-two, he died at home after suffering a sudden medical emergency. According to reports, in the evening he took his regular medication and lay down on his back to rest. After some time, he experienced severe nausea, followed by difficulty breathing due to airway obstruction. He was found unresponsive in his sleep, with medical experts determining that his brain had been deprived of oxygen.
Upon noticing his condition, his family contacted emergency services. Responding teams performed initial medical intervention at the scene. Rıza Tamer was then transported by ambulance to Bodrum State Hospital, where all medical efforts to save him proved unsuccessful.
Following his death, his management company issued an official statement confirming that medical interventions had been unsuccessful and announced that details of the funeral ceremony would be shared with the public later. The news of his passing generated widespread反响 in the artistic community; his public relations representative stated he was shocked upon hearing the news. Musician Zeynep Bastık shared a condolence message expressing how fortunate she had been to witness his talent, while Deniz Seki, the judge who had once criticized him during the competition, expressed her sorrow through a photo posted on social media.
