Passenger Aircraft Crash in South Sudan (April 2026)

South Sudan’s capital, Juba, was the site of a fatal aviation incident on 27 April 2026, when a passenger aircraft crashed resulting in the death of all 14 people on board.

The crash occurred near the city of Juba approximately 20 kilometers southwest of the capital. According to statements from the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority the aircraft involved was a small passenger plane of the Cessna 208 Caravan type. It was reported that the aircraft was en route from the city of Yei to Juba International Airport when the accident happened.

The aircraft was operated by a company named CityLink Aviation. It was reported that the flight departed at 09:15 local time and lost contact with air traffic control at 09:43 during the flight. Following the loss of communication the aircraft was confirmed to have crashed.

A total of 14 people died in the crash including 13 passengers and the pilot. Two of the passengers were Kenyan nationals while the remaining passengers were citizens of South Sudan. Authorities confirmed that there were no survivors.

Initial assessments suggest the crash may have been related to adverse weather conditions. It was stated that poor visibility caused by fog and unfavorable weather significantly compromised flight safety. Authorities indicated that the definitive cause of the crash will be determined following technical investigations.

The area where the crash occurred is described as mountainous and frequently shrouded in fog. Images shared on social media showed the aircraft wreckage engulfed in flames indicating a fire broke out following the impact.

Following the incident investigation teams and emergency response units were dispatched to the area. Relevant agencies including the South Sudan Red Cross were reported to have conducted operations at the crash site. Teams were active on the ground to determine the causes of the crash and collect evidence related to the incident.

An official investigation into the crash has been launched. The Civil Aviation Authority stated that all data regarding the aircraft’s technical condition weather conditions and flight operations will be analyzed. Initial findings point to adverse weather conditions but the final conclusion will be determined following detailed investigations.
