Ormancık (Ormancık Village) Camii

The Ormancık Mosque, also known as the Ormancık Village Mosque, located in the village of Ormancık within the Çayeli district of Rize, is a village mosque dated to the mid-18th century based on inscriptions and architectural features. The structure was relocated to its current site in 1826, a date confirmed by an inscription on the gallery.

The mosque is a two-story building. The ground floor consists of a stone-walled space, while the upper floor is a wooden prayer hall. It is noted that the ground floor was previously used for education and gatherings. The upper floor contains the harem section, with an open congregational area on the northern side covered by a gallery. The roof is a broken-pitch design and is covered with sheet metal. Although no definitive information exists regarding the original construction date, the mosque is assessed to have been built in the mid-18th century, with its relocation confirmed by the 1826 inscription.

Ormancık Village is approximately 44 km from the center of Rize and 25 km from the center of Çayeli district. The mosque is situated along the Senoz Valley route and serves as the village’s place of worship.

The interior of the mosque features carved wooden elements. Floral and geometric motifs are found on the mihrab, minbar, and gallery. These motifs are applied more densely on the minbar.

Restoration work at the mosque was completed in 2019. During this process, certain additions made over time and classified as “unqualified” were removed; restoration efforts were carried out on the wooden surfaces, stone walls, and roof covering. Landscaping of the surrounding area was also undertaken during this period.
