Oğuzhan Asiltürk (25 May 1935, Malatya – 1 Oct 2021, Ankara) was a Turkish politician, engineer and one of the pioneering figures of the Millî Görüş movement. He played an active role in Türkiye’s political life for more than half a century. As one of Necmettin Erbakan’s closest working associates, he contributed to both the theoretical and practical dimensions of the Millî Görüş line and held positions as a member of parliament, minister and party leader.
Oğuzhan Asiltürk was born on 25 May 1935 in the Hekimhan district of Malatya. After completing his primary and secondary education in Malatya, he moved to Istanbul for university studies. He graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ). He applied his technical knowledge later in his political career, particularly in infrastructure, urban planning and industrial policies.
After university graduation, he worked as an engineer on various public and private sector projects. He practiced as a freelance consultant and established an engineering firm named Asiltürk Proje in Ankara, where he was active in construction, infrastructure and consultancy fields.
He entered politics in 1970 with the National Order Party (MNP). After the closure of MNP, he joined the founding cadre of the National Salvation Party (MSP), established in 1972. He was elected as a member of parliament for Ankara in the 1973 and 1977 elections and served in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. In the 1974 coalition government formed by the CHP and MSP, he served as Minister of Interior, taking an active role in Türkiye’s security and internal governance policies.
He later served in the National Front coalitions formed in 1975 and 1977, first as Minister of Interior and then as Minister of Industry and Technology.

Following the military coup on 12 September 1980, all political activities ceased and Oğuzhan Asiltürk’s parliamentary term ended. He was tried under the MSP case but was acquitted. After the coup, he was banned from politics for ten years. His political ban was lifted after the 1987 constitutional referendum, after which he returned to political life.
After the lifting of his ban, he joined the Refah Party (RP) and was elected as its General Secretary. He returned to the Turkish Grand National Assembly in the 1991 general elections as a deputy from Malatya. The Refah Party emerged as the leading party in the 1995 elections, during which Asiltürk became a prominent figure in the party’s decision-making structures. After the RP was closed by the Constitutional Court in 1998, he joined the Fazilet Party (FP). He was among the founding members of the Saadet Party (SP), established after the FP, and played a key role in ensuring the continuity of the Millî Görüş movement.
Although he was not actively involved in politics during the 2000s, he served as Chairman of the High Consultative Council (YİK), one of the most authoritative bodies of the Saadet Party. He also held the presidency of the Millî Görüş Foundation, where he worked diligently to maintain internal party balance and ensure unity in the post-Erbakan era.
Known for his modest lifestyle, public information about Oğuzhan Asiltürk’s family life is limited. He had four children with his wife Sevinç Asiltürk.
On 13 September 2021, he was hospitalized in Ankara after being diagnosed with COVID-19. As his condition worsened, he received intensive care. Despite all medical interventions, he passed away on 1 October 2021 at the age of 86.
