Nazan Moroğlu was born in Istanbul in 1947. After graduating from the German High School, she completed her undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Law of Istanbul University. She earned her master’s degree at Istanbul University in the field of Women’s Law, and her work Kadının Soyadı, the first academic thesis on this subject, was published in 1998.

From 2002 to 2014, she taught the course “Women’s Human Rights Law” at the Faculty of Law of Yeditepe University, and since 2014, she has been teaching the same course at the Faculty of Law of MEF University.

Moroğlu is one of the founding members of the Istanbul University Faculty of Law Education Foundation (İÜHFEV) and the German High School Alumni Culture and Education Foundation (ALKEV). She is the founding president of the Women’s Law Commission of the Turkish Bar Association (TÜBAKKOM).

In addition to serving on the Istanbul Bar Association’s Women’s Rights Commission, she has held positions on its board of directors and served as vice president from 2018 to 2022. She currently serves as a delegate of the Turkish Bar Association.

Since 2016, she has been teaching the course “Women’s Human Rights” at MEF University as a visiting faculty member.

Moroğlu has served as an administrator and member in numerous organizations including the Turkish Association of Women Lawyers, the Women’s Research Association, the Turkish Association of University Women, the Beşiktaş City Council Women’s Assembly, the Secular and Scientific Education Platform (LABEP), the 65+ Elder Rights Association, SODEV (Social Democracy Foundation), Yanındayız Association, and the Nazım Hikmet Foundation.

She coordinated the Istanbul Women’s Organizations Union (İKKB) from 2004 to 2024. She served on the board of directors of the Turkish Family Planning Foundation from 2014 to 2024. She has also been a member of advisory boards for various commissions of KAGİDER and TÜSİAD.

Moroğlu has conducted extensive research on preventing violence against women, alimony, child marriage, and civil law reforms. She played an active role in the drafting processes of Laws No. 4320 and No. 6284 and is among the first advocates of the Istanbul Convention in Türkiye.

Moroğlu has authored and edited numerous books and publications on women’s law, civil law, and gender equality. Her major publications include:
