Museum of Ferhat and Shirin, the Lovers

Ferhat and Shirin Museum of Lovers was constructed in 2013 by the Amasya Municipality. The museum is located along the route known as the "Ferhat Water Channel", where, according to the legend of Ferhat and Shirin, Ferhat tunneled through mountains to bring water to Shirin.

As Türkiye’s first and only museum themed on love, the Ferhat and Shirin Museum of Lovers explores love stories found in both Anatolian and world oral and written literatures. The museum presents a comprehensive narrative of love by representing both human and divine love. It offers visual and auditory richness through wax sculptures, three- and two-dimensional silicone models, reliefs, period-specific decorations, and immersive elements of light, scent, and music.

The museum is organized thematically into nine distinct sections, each representing a different aspect of love and presenting original stories to visitors. These sections are: Ferhat and Shirin, Kerem and Aslı, Leyla and Majnun, Romeo and Juliet, Mimar Sinan and Mihrimah Sultan, Anatolian Minstrels, The Yavuklu Culture in Anatolia, Divine Love, and Souvenirs.

Each room features period-appropriate decorations, silicone models, wax sculptures, special effects, lighting, and music tailored to its narrative. The visitor route follows a structure that begins with human love and progresses toward the expression of divine love. This design offers a holistic narrative encompassing the individual and social manifestations of love as well as its spiritual dimensions. Additionally, scent experiences specific to each story are incorporated to enhance sensory engagement. In the museum garden, a symbolic tomb of Ferhat and Shirin is located, while a central wedding hall is situated within the interior space.

Each thematic room presents its narrative through decor, lighting, and musical effects that reflect the atmosphere of the corresponding historical period. Stories are visualized using wax sculptures, three-dimensional models, and thematic reliefs. Different scent applications in each room are designed to enrich the visitors’ experience.

The Ferhat and Shirin Museum of Lovers represents not only literary love stories but also concepts such as love, loyalty, and sacrifice embedded in Anatolia’s cultural memory. The fictional narrative that progresses from human love to divine love aims to present a holistic understanding of love’s earthly and metaphysical dimensions.
