It earned $460.4 million in the United States and Canada and $598.8 million in international markets. The film set a record for the highest five-day opening weekend with $225.4 million during the Thanksgiving holiday surpassing the previous record of $125 million held by Frozen 2. It also broke the record for the largest three-day opening weekend among Disney Animation films. Moana 2’s success alongside Disney’s other major 2024 hits Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine reinforced the studio’s dominance in the animation and family film market. The production of Moana 2 was initially planned as a five-episode series for Disney+. However in February 2024 Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that the project would be restructured as a theatrical film.
