Karasu Beach

Karasu Beach or Karasu Shore is a public beach located in the Karasu district on the Black Sea coast of Sakarya Province. With a coastline of approximately 20 kilometers, it is one of the longest beaches in Türkiye and holds the distinction of being the country’s second longest beach.

The beach is situated at the intersection of the Black Sea and Marmara regions, combining climatic characteristics of both areas. Its distance from the center of Sakarya Province ranges between 40 and 55 kilometers depending on the source. The coastal area is accessible year-round via asphalt roads.

Karasu Shore is a completely public beach with free access. Along the coastline there are two Blue Flag beaches named Karasu 32 Evler Beach and Sahil Park Beach. Throughout the beach, visitors will find dining and shopping facilities, entertainment venues, as well as walking and cycling paths.

In the region, hotel and pension operations are especially common during the summer months. Additionally, it is commonly believed among locals that the sand on the beach has beneficial effects for certain rheumatic conditions.

One of the distinctive natural features of Karasu Shore is its role as a habitat for the endangered White Sand Lily (Pancratium maritimum). This monotypic genus, not classified as a subspecies within the Amaryllidaceae family, produces white, showy and fragrant flowers. The sand lily thrives in dry, stable sandy areas with low competition from other plant species. With a high tolerance for salinity, the sand lily meets its water needs during extreme summer heat through groundwater rising from the sea, atmospheric humidity, or nighttime dew.
