KALEKALIP KGL40

KALEKALIP KGL40, is a grenade launcher system designed by the Turkish defense industry company Kale Kalıp, capable of firing 40x46 mm low velocity (LV) ammunition. The device is designed to be integrated under the barrel of infantry rifles (under-barrel grenade launcher) or used as a standalone weapon with its own stock system. The system has been incorporated into the inventory of the General Command of Gendarmerie since 2020 and is in active service.

The KGL40 features a modular design that can be configured according to tactical requirements. It can be carried in a holster both with and without the stock, thanks to a five-position folding stock integrated into the rear of the weapon body. Excluding the stock and other accessories, the basic weight of the weapon is 1,850 grams.

The firing mechanism is based on a single-shot, self-cocking system with a double-action trigger. The weapon is equipped with a trigger safety to prevent unintended discharges. The design has been developed to be ambidextrous, accommodating both right- and left-handed users; accordingly, the safety lever and barrel lock lever are positioned on both sides.

The launcher’s barrel is 8.6 inches (220 mm) long and features a six-groove right-hand rifling system that imparts direction and spin to the ammunition. The barrel, manufactured using a hybrid aluminum-steel material, has an operational service life exceeding 5,000 rounds.

Ammunition loading is performed from the left side of the chamber. The chamber has been enlarged to accommodate cartridges of varying dimensions.

The KGL40 system is compatible with all standard ammunition sizes, including 40x46 mm LV (low velocity) and ER (extended range) rounds, as well as anti-riot rounds (gas/plastic), tactical rounds, and illumination rounds.

The weapon’s external dimensions vary depending on attachments. The basic width of the weapon is 60.4 mm and its height is 161 mm. When a mechanical sight is added, the width increases to 103 mm and the height to 221 mm. The length measures 515 mm with the stock extended and 475 mm with the stock folded.

The launcher is equipped with leaf-type iron sights that can be mounted on either side and are compatible with electro-optical sighting systems. According to ballistic tests and operational data, the effective range of the KGL40 is 250 meters, while the maximum range achievable by the ammunition is 400 meters.
