İskender Paşa Konağı

İskender Paşa Konağı is a historic Ottoman residence located in the İskender Mahallesi of the Sur district in Diyarbakır. It was constructed in 1551 by İskender Paşa, an Ottoman governor appointed to Diyarbakır who served for four years, as his official residence. This structure, with a history of approximately five centuries, is currently accessible and notable for its historical architecture and architectural features.

The residence is a two-story building designed in an L-shape. In this layout, the haremlik section is situated at the front, while the selamlık section is located at the rear. The building features more than 40 rooms across its eastern, western and southern sides, offering an expansive living area. The spacious courtyards and the size of the rooms reflect the grandeur of Ottoman architecture. This residence is among the 446 registered historic structures in Diyarbakır and is counted among the city’s most significant historical buildings.

A plane tree estimated to be around 400 years old is one of the structure’s important natural elements. This tree, valued both aesthetically and culturally, enhances the cultural identity of the residence. Today, the İskender Paşa Konağı functions as a café and provides the public with a living space immersed in its historic atmosphere. In this way, it contributes to the preservation of cultural heritage while maintaining its functionality.
