İnegöl Sütlü Kadayıfı
Imagine the scent of milk wafting through a warm kitchen, reminiscent of honey. This aroma may well come from the famous milk kadayıf of İnegöl, one of Bursa’s finest districts. Unlike traditional syrup-based desserts, this treat is both exceptionally light and, in appearance, almost like a work of art. Are you ready to uncover the secrets of this spiral-shaped, generously milky delight?
A Milky and Spiral Delight
İnegöl milk kadayıf stands out from other desserts primarily because it uses abundant milk and cream instead of water. As a result, the dessert melts softly on the tongue. Its color is a golden yellow, just like a perfectly baked loaf of bread. The shape is equally distinctive: individual kadayıf strands are carefully rolled into spiral forms. When served, each piece reveals itself as a delicately crafted little roll.
Step Into the Kitchen: How Is This Dessert Made?
To prepare this delicious dessert, the thin kadayıf strands are first thoroughly brushed with a mixture of butter and sunflower oil. This step is crucial as it prevents the strands from breaking apart during rolling. The strands are then rolled into cylinders by hand and arranged on a tray. They are baked in an oven at approximately 180 degrees Celsius for about 30 minutes, until their tops turn a golden yellow. While still warm, the dessert is drenched in cold milk-based syrup. This syrup contains not only milk and sugar but also a special cream that gives it its distinctive consistency. Optionally, walnuts are sprinkled on top before serving.
İnegöl’s Pride: A Protected Dessert
İnegöl milk kadayıf is more than just a dessert—it is an integral part of the region’s culture. So distinctive is this treat that it was officially registered and placed under protection on 9 June 2023. This means that to taste a genuine İnegöl milk kadayıf, it must be prepared in the İnegöl district of Bursa using traditional methods. This dessert, often the centerpiece of tables during holidays and special occasions, remains one of the most cherished elements of İnegöl’s culinary heritage.
