Realizing that all his enemies are connected to Oscorp, Peter investigates why his father, Richard Parker, disappeared years earlier and discovers a hidden laboratory beneath an abandoned subway station. He finds a video recording in which his father explains that he used his own DNA on spiders and fled to prevent Norman Osborn from weaponizing the research. At the film’s climax, Peter and Gwen work together to overload Electro with excessive electricity, neutralizing him. Immediately afterward, the Green Goblin appears, discovers Spider-Man’s true identity, and takes Gwen hostage. During a battle atop a clock tower, the Green Goblin is defeated, but Gwen falls to her death despite Peter’s desperate efforts. Devastated by guilt, Peter Parker abandons his identity as Spider-Man. Five months later, events reignite when Harry Osborn, imprisoned at the Ravencroft Institute, collaborates with Gustav Fiers to provide Aleksei Sytsevich with an electromechanical rhino armor (Rhino), leading Sytsevich to attack the city. Inspired by listening again to Gwen’s graduation speech, Peter reclaims his sense of responsibility and returns as Spider-Man to protect the city.
