Hendek Bayraktepe

Hendek Bayraktepe is a site and social facility in the district of Hendek, within the province of Sakarya, Türkiye, featuring monument and cultural tourism characteristics. It is located on the upper slope of a hill in the northeastern part of the district center, at the foothills of Çamdağı, at an elevation of 360 meters. The distance from the city center of Sakarya is 40 kilometers. The hill has been named Bayraktepe due to its dense display of flags.

Bayraktepe, with its panoramic view of the city, serves as a recreational area for the local population and a venue for celebrations on important occasions. The main historical and cultural monuments within the complex are as follows:

• Hendek Cemetery: Located within the boundaries of the site.
• Monument of the 16 Turkish States: Flags, reliefs, and inscriptions representing the 16 historical Turkish states are displayed on the site.
• Culture Museum and Ottoman Monument: The complex includes a Culture Museum housing historical artifacts and an Ottoman monument containing the berat of Sheikh İzzettin İsmail Efendi.
• War Aircraft Exhibition: An old war aircraft, identified in various sources as either an F-4 or F-10, is exhibited on the site. This exhibition was established to commemorate two aircraft purchased entirely through local initiative and donated to the state by the people of Hendek between 1925 and 1936. The aircraft holds symbolic significance in terms of local history and Turkish aviation culture.

The facility is accessible by asphalt road in all seasons and accommodates visitors with disabilities. In addition to daily visits, Bayraktepe hosts various events and activities with a capacity of 100 to 450 people.

Furthermore, this complex has been designated by the Ministry of National Education as an out-of-school learning environment where students can reinforce their learning in subjects such as history, nature, science, and social studies. It has been integrated into the curriculum to enable students to understand the cultural heritage and analyze the relationship between nature and human society.
