Structural engineer John Garrity lives in Atlanta with his estranged wife Allison and their seven-year-old son Nathan, who has diabetes. The world is under threat from a massive cluster of comets named "Clarke," after Arthur C. Clarke. As fragments of the comet obliterate regions such as Florida, the Garrity family is among the limited number of people selected by the government for evacuation to military shelters in Greenland.^【2】 During the evacuation chaos at Robin’s Air Base, Nathan’s insulin medication is left in the vehicle, and due to his medical condition, he is denied boarding, causing the family to be separated.

While John fights through social chaos and relentless storms to find his family, Allison and Nathan attempt to reach Dale’s house in New York, despite the danger of abduction and harsh travel conditions. The family reunites at Dale’s home and barely manages to board one of the last flights to Greenland via Canada, just hours before the largest fragment of Clarke strikes Earth. Nine months after the impact, the shelters’ doors open, revealing that the atmosphere has begun to clear and the survivors are stepping into a new world.
