Gölyanı Village

Gölyanı Obası is a highland pasture area located within the boundaries of Yağlıdere district in Giresun province, situated between the villages of Sınır and Derindere. It lies at an elevation of approximately 1500 to 1530 meters. Gölyanı Obası retains its natural character largely intact and features a highland settlement type that includes a natural lake.

Gölyanı Obası is situated within the boundaries of Yağlıdere district in Giresun province and is classified as a highland pasture. The area is administratively linked to Derindere Village and is approximately 50 kilometers from Yağlıdere town. Access to the region is not problematic.

Gölyanı Obası has a basin-like terrain structure and contains a natural lake covering an area of approximately 3000 square meters. The lake is surrounded by pine forests.

Much of the lake’s surface is covered by reed beds, and parts of the area exhibit semi-swamp characteristics. It is known that the lake was once entirely covered by water, but over time the water level has receded and reed areas have expanded.

Within the highland, there are houses constructed from wood, locally known as “hartama.” These structures form a settlement pattern that harmonizes with the natural environment.

It has been noted that in some buildings, wooden roofing materials have been replaced with sheet metal over time.

Herders visit Gölyanı Obası between April and December. During these months, the highland is actively used for settlement and grazing. During festival periods, the area becomes even more crowded and lively.

Gölyanı Obası is included within the “Gölyanı Third-Degree Natural Site Area”.^【1】Additionally, in 2020 it was officially registered as a “strictly protected sensitive area”.^【2】Under this status, reinforced concrete construction is prohibited and preservation of the natural environment is the primary objective.

Gölyanı Obası is a highland pasture visited for its natural character and lake ecosystem. In recent years, it has become a destination for organized nature walks and excursions. Visits occur during both summer and winter seasons, and day-trippers are common. It is categorized as nature and cultural tourism.

In 2022, works were carried out to enhance the tourism potential of the highland. As part of these efforts, a 4-kilometer stabilized road was improved, and a 4200-meter pipeline was installed to increase the lake’s water level.

The forested areas of Gölyanı Obası fall under the jurisdiction of the Espiye Forest Management Directorate and the Yağlıdere Forest Management Office.
