İbrahim Ferman Akgül was born on 25 December 1979 in Ankara. He began his education at Ankara Anadolu High School. He was first introduced to music at the age of nine or ten through a piano purchased by his family. During his high school years he started playing classical guitar; his father gave him an Aeron brand guitar. Around the same time he began engaging in football and became an amateur licensed football player with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sports Club affiliated to the Turkish Football Federation as of 11 March 1995.

In 2001 Ferman Akgül founded the maNga band. The group entered the music scene in 2004 with their first album released under the Sony Music Türkiye label. In 2009 they won the award for “Best Artist in Europe” at the MTV Europe Music Awards. In 2010 they represented Türkiye at the Eurovision Song Contest held in Oslo Norway with the song “We Could Be the Same” and finished in second place.

Ferman Akgül’s musical career is built on the synthesis of alternative rock electronic music and Anatolian melodies. In maNga’s music a rock foundation is blended with electronic elements to create a modern sound. This fusion has contributed to the group’s development both in Türkiye and internationally.

Similar genres are prominent in his solo work as well; rock-based foundations enriched with electronic elements are frequently used. Experimental musical elements and diverse instrumentation have also been incorporated. Anatolian music motifs particularly in melodic and rhythmic structures reflect Türkiye’s cultural richness.

Ferman Akgül actively serves as a lyricist in both his work with maNga and his solo career. Themes are typically based on personal experiences social observations and universal human conditions. The language used in his lyrics often combines local folkloric elements with contemporary modes of expression.

In the production process Akgül is directly involved using electronic and digital music technologies to shape the arrangements of songs. In this way he makes creative contributions across various stages of music production.

Under his solo projects Ferman Akgül released the single “İstemem Söz Sevmeni” in 2016. In subsequent years he produced the following solo works:

He prepared and hosted the music program “Kulaktan Kulağa” on TRT Müzik for three seasons. The program aimed to connect local musical cultures and artists from various cities in Türkiye with the contemporary music world.

In 2016 he published his first book titled “Osmanlı Cadısı Tırnova”.

Ferman Akgül serves as an ambassador for the Yüzümle Mutluyum Derneği. He has participated in various social responsibility projects.

His move from Ankara to Istanbul international concerts and tour experiences have influenced his music. His first paid concert in Eskişehir and the logistical challenges encountered during this period are regarded as significant milestones in his career.
