Emre Lake

Emre Lake is a natural lake located between the town of Döğer and the village of Bayramaliler in the İhsaniye district of Afyonkarahisar Province, Türkiye. It also lies within the boundaries of the Phrygian Valley. The lake is approximately 50 kilometers from the city center of Afyonkarahisar, about a one-hour drive away.

The lake covers an area of approximately five square kilometers. Its depth exceeds three meters in some areas. Its surface area fluctuates depending on seasonal rainfall. The water is freshwater, and the lakebed’s grassy substrate provides a suitable habitat for fish.

Emre Lake is closely linked to the 3,000-year history of the Phrygian Valley in which it is situated. Numerous historical relics from the Phrygian era, including rock monuments, rock tombs, rock altars, and open-air temples, can be seen around the lake and throughout the Phrygian Valley. Along the lake’s shore stands the Yunus Emre Tekke. Due to this combination of natural beauty and historical heritage, Emre Lake is an important destination.

There are picnic areas and social facilities around Emre Lake. A variety of tourism activities are offered for visitors, including canoe tours, bicycle excursions, and ATV motorcycle tours. Unique to the region, visitors can also take boat rides on a specially crafted Phrygian vessel named “King Midas,” designed based on Phrygian artifacts and motifs. Additionally, under the Phrygian Valley Tourism Development Project, hot air balloon flights and animal releases aimed at supporting natural ecosystems are being implemented.
