Snake: A young and experienced healer tasked with treating patients and healing the wounded in remote, desolate regions. She strives to provide painless transitions for those who are dying. The anesthetics and hallucinogenic methods used by healers cause society to ostracize them. Snake’s most trusted companion is the rare and mystical creature known as the “Dream Snake.” When this snake is killed by a tribe, Snake loses her power and embarks on a journey to find a new one. She is portrayed as a skilled, strong, warrior-like, and rebellious woman.

Dream Snake: Snake’s most important ally. It is said to originate from another dimension and is exceedingly rare. Its death at the hands of a tribe diminishes Snake’s power.

Melissa: A character who embodies spiritual healing throughout the novel, symbolizing not only physical recovery but also inner transformation.
