Dragon Cave (Dragon Hollow)

Ejder Cave is a natural formation located within the National Park in the Pınarbaşı district of Kastamonu, among the Sphere Mountains. Known locally as Ejder Çukuru, this cave is 70 meters deep and 385 meters long.

Ejder Cave lies within the boundaries of Sümenler Village, under the Pınarbaşı district of Kastamonu. It is approximately 500 meters from Mantar Cave and 1 kilometer from Ilgarini Cave. Access is provided via forest roads and designated hiking trails.

Ejder Cave has formed underground as a large depression and exhibits a natural karst structure. The width of the cave varies between 12 and 15 meters. The cave is notable for its cooling air and misty atmosphere as one descends deeper underground; its shape has been shaped by geological movements and natural erosion. It is known that a road exists at its base and that remnants of earlier staircase structures are present.

Ejder Cave possesses significant tourism potential due to its integration with other natural attractions in the surrounding area. The cave is frequently visited by nature hikers and adventure enthusiasts and is also studied by professional climbers and cavers. Entry into the cave without proper Technical equipment is not possible. In addition, the slippery and soft ground near the cave entrance requires visitors to exercise caution.

During the afternoon, a natural visual phenomenon known as the “mist waterfall” occurs when sunlight strikes a specific point within Ejder Cave. This effect is believed to result from the interaction of cold air currents with sunlight and presents an impressive sight to visitors.

Ejder Cave is visited alongside other natural formations in Kastamonu. Some of these include:

1. Ilgarini Cave: Known as the fourth deepest cave in the world.

2. Mantar Cave: Noted for its mushroom-like appearance due to a 4-meter-high limestone formation inside.
