Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget (English original title: Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget) is a 2023 stop-motion animated adventure comedy film produced by Aardman Animations. Directed by Sam Fell, the screenplay was written by Karey Kirkpatrick, John O’Farrell, and Rachel Tunnard. The film is a sequel to the 2000 cult classic Chicken Run and combines Aardman’s traditional stop-motion puppet animation style with modern digital techniques.

The film is a co-production of the United Kingdom, the United States, and France, distributed by Netflix. It was released digitally on 15 December 2023 and had a limited theatrical release on 8 December 2023. With a runtime of 1 hour and 38 minutes, the film continues the themes of the original while focusing on the story of a new generation.

In the first film, Ginger, who escaped from Tweedy’s farm in a daring breakout, finally achieves freedom by finding a safe haven on an island remote from human interference. The life Ginger and Rocky build there gains deeper meaning with the birth of their daughter, Molly. However, Molly, who possesses a spirited adventurous nature, follows her curiosity and ventures to the mainland. Meanwhile, a new human project emerges that threatens the very existence of chickens.

Ginger is forced to organize another operation, this time not to escape from humans but to confront the threat at its source and rescue other chickens. In this way, the film reverses the escape theme of the original; it centers on a community that has already won its freedom and must now unite to fight again.

The film was produced in collaboration between Aardman Animations, Netflix Animation, and Pathé. Director Sam Fell, previously known for his work on ParaNorman (2013), maintains Aardman’s signature clay animation style in the visual design while enhancing it with digital color palettes to achieve a brighter tone. However, some critics have described the film’s color usage as “artificial and overly saturated.”

The film was shot in English and released in Türkiye under the title Tavuklar Firarda: Kurtarma Operasyonu. The visual format is color, and the audio format is digital.

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget received a nomination at the 2024 BAFTA Awards and was nominated in a total of nine categories. The film’s technical achievements and mastery of stop-motion animation were widely praised, earning it a BAFTA nomination in the category of Best Animated Film.
